Artist Statement
In the creation of monumental outdoor sculpture, I hope to engage the viewer in the power of abstract forms as they appear in space. I work with the debris of our civilization, challenging the hard, unyielding iron and steel to take on a new physicality, a new life. These fragments of ancient buildings and bridges, scraps and findings, are recombined, reassembled, and welded into art. The rich patina of rusted steel is lacquered to reflect the warmth of its color and the surrounding natural light. Many of these sculptures have a soaring totemic presence and a historical reference that transcend the sum of their individual parts.
