2010 April
On April 22, SEFA hosted The Art for Humanity Fundraising Reception to raise funds for the victims of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The event was organized by the Gaskov Clerge Foundation, the United Haitian Artists and Kalalou Kafe. The benefit featured the work of two dozen Haitian artists. Proceeds from sales will benefit Haiti's rebuilding efforts and the Gaskov Clerge Foundation, which is organizing a second medical mission to the most neglected areas in Haiti.

Holiday House Celebrates Life!

Co-organizer of the inaugural Holiday House Designer Showhouse, Iris Dankner of Iris Design, has selected artwork by two SEFA artists to decorate its suite of rooms. Benefiting the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Holiday House features 26 noted interior design firms. Working with designer Stephan Sparta, Iris Designs selected a photograph by Lars Klingstedt and an oil painting by Daehyuk Sim to enhance their boudoir and closet, bedecked in neutrals and shimmering gold hues.

The Holiday House is open to the public from November 4-December 7. For hours and more information, go to www.holidayhouseny.com or www.komennyc.org.

Susan Eley with Daudi Karungi at the Rockefeller Foundation's artist's reception
On April 30, The Rockefeller Foundation and Ugandan artist Daudi Karungi held a one-night exhibition at Susan Eley Fine Art. The exhibition, curated by New York-based art consultant Martha Ruiz-Perilla, featured two dozen paintings and woodcut prints. Karungi plans to open Uganda's first modern art museum/auction house. In attendance at this special evening were Rockefeller Foundation staff members and friends.

Two of Maria Passarotti's cyanotypes from her Botanical Portrait series were selected by the Juried Alternative Process Competition at SoHo Photo. The exhibition runs November 6 - December 1, 2007. Soho Photo is located at 15 White Street, NYC.

Hiroko Ohno on the cover of East Side Our Town
SEFA artist Hiroko Ohno was prominently featured in the cover story of "East Side Our Town" and its sister paper "West Side Spirit" (Aug. 30). Written by Carla Zanoni, "Artists at Work" told the story of artists who have elected to live and work in Manhattan, despite the hardships, financial and otherwise, of doing so. "East Side Our Town" serves the East Side, from Turtle Bay to Carnegie Hill, home to some of the country's wealthiest neighborhoods. It is the largest paper of its kind in the area. Hiroko Ohno will be represented by SEFA at the Bridge Art Fair, Miami, December '07.

Perloff lecturing at Café Joul, June 7, 2007
On June 7, Stephen Perloff-editor of The Photograph Collector and The Photo Review-spoke on "Collecting Photography in a Bullish Photography Market." The lecture, held at midtown's Café Joul, was organized by SEFA to mark its exhibition of Jay Hochheiser's photography, on view at the café through July. The lecture attracted some 40 collectors, photographers and dealers. A 10 minute videoclip of Perloff's talk can be heard on youtube. Please contact SEFA for a copy of the entire lecture.

Jongwang Lee, featured in his first US solo show at SEFA's off-site exhibition at the Prince George Gallery (March 2007), has been selected to participate in a summer group show at the Islip Art Museum, L.I. Lee's seminal work "My Portrait" will be presented.

Jay Hochheiser, Swimming in the Puget Sound (2006)
Susan Eley Fine Art was named "Best Home Turned into an Art Gallery" in West Side Spirit's "Best of the Borough" issue, May 31.

The competitive photo annual American Photography has chosen two images by Gallery artist Maria Passarotti to include in their 2007 edition. The photographs, Row Houses and Canopy, were among 331 photographs selected from 8,000 submissions. They were commissioned in 2006 by SEFA for an exhibition to benefit the West 90th Street Park Block Association.

Jay Hochheiser was featured in the May issue of Focus magazine. His work was on view in "Europe Redrawn," curated by Eley for Café Joul, 1070 First Avenue at 58th Street, through July. Among the 20 photographs on view is Puget Sound, recently awarded 1st Place and Best in Show at the 50th Annual Middletown Township Art Show in NJ.

Reception for West 90th Street fundraiser, January 10, 2007
The exhibition "Capturing West 90th Street: A Suite of Photographs of a Central Park West Block," raised over $3,000 to benefit the West 90th Street Park Block Association. The exhibition, held at SEFA, was comprised of unique photographs by Maria Passarotti, commissioned by the Block Association and SEFA.
